About the Hand & Power Tool Prospect Directory
A free, state-by-state directory of U.S. manufacturing plants that rely on hand and power tools for production and maintenance. It's built for tool reps, tool truck routes, and industrial distributors and manufacturer reps.
It lists plants, not companies. A company with five plants has five maintenance crews, five tool cribs and often five buyers, so each plant gets its own listing with the details a tool rep needs before a first call.
How plants are chosen
Plants are included when they use hand and power tools heavily, on the production line, in maintenance, or both. The more moving parts in the plant and in its product, the more tools it goes through.
Tier 1 plants assemble products with many moving parts (vehicles, heavy and farm equipment, aerospace, rail, engines and appliances), so tools are used on the line and in maintenance. Tier 2 plants cut, machine, weld and assemble (fabrication, machinery, electrical equipment, firearms and furniture), so they buy tooling, abrasives and power tools. Tier 3 plants are process sites (refining, steel, food, chemicals and plastics) where MRO spend is driven by maintenance crews and shutdowns.
Opportunity A marks a large site (about 1,000 or more people) or a plant that is tooling up right now: a new plant, a new line, a ramp-up or a restart. B is a mid-size site or a solid signal. C is a smaller site or one with older data.
Where the information comes from
Every plant links to a public source: state facility records, company announcements and contact pages, job postings, and local and trade news. Headcounts are estimates, and each one notes how old it is. We list role titles for buyers, never individual people.
Distances and map pins use U.S. Census Bureau ZIP code area centers (public domain), so they're approximate. Street addresses on each plant page are checked separately. Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap using OpenStreetMap data.
Plants change. Confirm details before a visit, and if you spot something out of date, suggest a correction.
Privacy
This site doesn't require an account. "Use my location" asks your browser for your position and uses it only on the page to measure distances. It isn't sent to us or stored. When you type a ZIP code or town that isn't already in the directory, the page looks up its location with the U.S. Census Bureau's public mapping service.
Beyond that, if you send a correction, we keep what you submit, including your email if you give one, only to review the suggestion. We don't sell it.
The site shows a small number of ads to cover its costs. Ad partners such as Google may use cookies to show and measure ads. You can manage personalized ads in your Google ad settings or block cookies in your browser.
